| About Proposition S |
Education for Children is a coalition of parents, large and small businesses, classroom teachers and average San Diego citizens who recognize the critical
importance of public schools in our community. We have come together to urge San Diego voters to approve Proposition S on the November 4th ballot.
Children in the San Diego Unified School District deserve schools that enhance learning and are free from health and safety hazards. Yet aging and deteriorating classrooms,
leaky roofs, frayed electrical wiring, hazardous asbestos and mold, and limited classroom technology are serious obstacles to ensuring student safety and learning success
in our schools.
Proposition S will fix our schools with urgently needed repairs and technology upgrades and it will NOT increase the tax rate. The $2.1 billion bond replaces Proposition MM,
which was passed in 1998 and has since been awarded two Golden Watchdog Awards from the San Diego County Taxpayers Association--its highest honor given for efficient use of tax
dollars. As the MM bonds expire, new bonds will be issued to replace them and the tax rate will not increase. |
